Sumie Beach
The beach is popular with families because of its excellent facilities and calm waves.
Located in the center of the northern part of Nippo Coast Quasi-National Park (also known as Minamikitaura Coast), this ria-style coastline with gentle waves has been selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment's Top 100 Beaches. There are plenty of leisure facilities where you can play freely, including Beach Forest Sumie, which has a wide range of play equipment and accommodation facilities, as well as tennis courts and a family aquarium. Beach huts line the street in front of the beach, where you can enjoy snacks and shaved ice.
The beach is shallow and said to have the calmest waves in Miyazaki Prefecture, so even families with small children can enjoy swimming in the sea without worry, and it is bustling with families in the summer. In front of it is a large grassy area where many parents and children spread out their sheets to eat their lunch or play catch.
The beach and the area with cabins and the aquarium are connected by the wooden SUN Beach Sumie Bridge, making it easy to get between the two areas by foot or bicycle.
