Founded in July 1949, Hyuga no Kuni Toraya, a long-established confectionery shop representing Nobeoka, celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2019 and changed its name to "Kaze no Kashi Torahiko" along with the new era name.
The "Hiko" comes from the founder, Tadahiko, and many gods in Japanese mythology have names that include the single character "Hiko," such as Sarutahiko, Umisachihiko, and Yamasachihiko, and is imbued with gratitude for a blessed connection. Based on the management philosophy of "Hissho!", the company continues to strive to create beautiful and delicious sweets that can be enjoyed nationwide, with the belief that "the life of Japanese sweets is the bean paste" and "turning ordinary sweets that everyone knows into extraordinary sweets that everyone will understand."
Among their many products, the most representative is the "Haremanju." Using a unique method, adzuki beans from Tokachi, Hokkaido, are turned into a refreshingly sweet bean paste, making it the perfect treat for bean paste lovers. It is also made by combining grated yam with rice flour, and is wrapped in a karukan-like skin that melts in your mouth.
