In early February, the grounds of Honto-ji Temple are filled with 50 white plum trees and 5 red plum trees, including a giant tree over 240 years old. Known as Enichibai (Enichibai) after the temple's name, it is one of the three great plum trees in Miyazaki Prefecture, along with the Yunomiyazaronbai in Shintomi Town and the Tsukichibai in Takaoka Town, Miyazaki City. Among them, the old weeping tree in the center of the temple grounds has been selected as one of the "2 Great Trees of Miyazaki."
The grounds also contain the gravestones of Fujie Kanmon and Ejiri Kitaemon, who were instrumental in the opening of the Iwakuma Weir, as well as a stupa dedicated to Hyuga Gozen, the great-granddaughter of Tokugawa Ieyasu and Oda Nobunaga and wife of Arima Naozumi, the lord of Nobeoka Domain. The ruins of Matsuo Castle, the last castle of the Tsuchimochi clan, are located nearby.
Plum blossom viewing events are held on February 10th and 11th, when the plum blossoms are at their best, and many people visit.
