Shiroyama Kagura Festival

A variety of Kagura dances rooted in the mountains, sea and countryside of Nobeoka City come together in one place

The "Shiroyama Kagura Festival" began in 1997 with the aim of providing an opportunity for those who have inherited Kagura traditions to perform, fostering successors, improving local culture, and revitalizing the community. Kagura performances that have been passed down from within and outside the city are showcased in November at the parking lot north of the Noguchi Memorial Hall.

[Origin of Nobeoka Kagura]

Nobeoka Kagura was brought to this area by mountain ascetics and other ascetics during the Nara period, and is a descendant of Izumo Kagura.

During the Heian period, it began to be performed at many shrines (there is a record of it being performed at Imayama Hachiman Shrine during the Muromachi period).
