START

Restaurant Naochan

Our original chicken nanban without tartar sauce is incredibly popular! Enjoy this exquisite dish made with carefully selected ingredients sourced from within the prefecture and the local area.

"Nao-chan's" Chicken Nanban is characterized by its simplicity: locally sourced chicken breast is coated in flour, dipped in beaten egg, fried, and topped with an original sweet and sour sauce. The freshly cooked rice, made with Mukai rice known for its delicious taste and cooked in a pressure cooker, and the miso soup, made with dashi broth from Kitaura dried sardines and Mukai dried shiitake mushrooms, will double your appetite! The combination of roughly chopped cabbage and sweet and sour sauce is also excellent.

Imayama Daishi

Awe-inspiring! Japan's largest statue of Kobo Daishi, standing at 17 meters tall.

The statue of Kobo Daishi is located at the top of Imayama Daishiji Temple, about a 15-minute walk from Nobeoka Station. In 1839 (Tenpo 10), when a disease raged in Nobeoka, followers of Kobo Daishi from Nobeoka Castle town traveled to Kongobu-ji Temple on Mount Koya and enshrined a seated statue of Kobo Daishi (the current principal image), passing through Daishi-an (Daishi Hermitage) to pray for "family safety," "good health and longevity," "abundant harvests," and "business and industry development." In 1918 (Taisho 7), the Daishi Hall was built, and in 1957 (Showa 32), thanks to generous donations from believers and local volunteers, the 17-meter-tall statue of Kobo Daishi, the largest in Japan, was erected.
